Durango–La Plata County Airport

A terminal expansion at Durango–La Plata County Airport delivered a new baggage claim hall with a finished architectural interior. Local News Network needed a double-sided advertising display in the carousel infield — visible to passengers on both sides of the belt, at close range, in a space where anything added had to look like it belonged.

Challenge

The install was the hard part. Baggage claim stayed open. Crews worked during normal operating hours, in the middle of a public hall, with the carousel turning and passengers waiting for their bags the entire time. There was no shutdown window to build into.

Two 25-module arrays, set back-to-back on a steel structure in the carousel island, aligned face to face, in a footprint enclosed by a running conveyor — without ever interrupting the flow of passengers and bags through the room.

Solution

i5LED supplied a two-face Icon Innovation Series, COB displays, 25 modules per face in a 5 × 5 array, 9.84′ wide by 5.54′ high, in aluminum cabinets with finish trim, front serviceable and mounted to a steel support structure erected in the carousel infield.

Pitch was specified against Local News Network’s short viewing-distance requirement: 1.5mm COB, with the conveyor itself setting the closest a passenger can stand. Each face runs 1920 × 1080 native, so content maps one-to-one with no resolution conversion. COB construction suits an unsupervised public space, the LEDs sit under a continuous encapsulated surface rather than as exposed packages, leaving nothing to catch and a face that cleans easily.

Result

Both faces are live and carrying paid local advertising. A single structure covers the entire claim hall in two directions, reaching every arriving passenger during the one stretch of an airport visit when nobody is in a hurry. The airport never lost use of its baggage claim to get it.
