Angel Square Tower in Manchester’s NOMA district is a prime location for digital advertising, capturing the attention of over 5,000 pedestrians daily and benefiting from prolonged dwell times due to steady traffic flow. Managed by City Outdoor Media, the large-format display had been a staple in the area but was due for an upgrade. Rather than opting for a full teardown, a sustainable retrofit approach was chosen—one that would modernize the display while reusing existing infrastructure to reduce waste and environmental impact.
Challenge
The existing digital display at Angel Square Tower had served as a key advertising platform, but it was due for an upgrade. The challenge was to enhance visual performance with a brighter, more impactful LED screen while ensuring a sustainable installation by reusing the existing structural framework. The project needed to minimize waste, avoid unnecessary modifications, and integrate the new display seamlessly without extended downtime or disruption to advertisers.

To bring this project to life, City Outdoor Media entrusted EcoVista Solutions with managing the upgrade. i5LED provided the LED display technology. Rather than a full teardown, the team implemented a green retrofit strategy, maintaining the existing steel framework to reduce material waste and environmental impact. The new 10mm pixel pitch LED display from i5LED, offering up to 10,000 nits of brightness, ensures exceptional clarity and visibility in all lighting conditions, maximizing advertising impact.
