Challenge
American Airlines Theatre, soon to be the Todd Haimes Theatre, needed an essential upgrade for its LED displays, which were nearing the end of their useful life since their installation in 2014. Planned to coincide with a name reveal at the end of January 2024, during a brief hiatus between shows, the project faced the dual challenges of a tight five-week timeline and winter conditions. Moreover, the theatre aimed for an environmentally friendly solution while updating the 21 displays situated at various heights along 42nd and 43rd Streets, moving away from the outdated 8mm and 10mm pixel pitches.
Solution
To ensure timely completion, i5LED engineered a solution by updating the existing display modules to a finer 6.6mm pixel pitch, eliminating the need for steel cabinet replacements. This approach avoided the environmental impact and logistical challenges of manufacturing and installing new cabinets, thus reducing the carbon footprint significantly. The project also includes new 4mm in window displays as well as fine pitch 1.8mm vitrine display on the 42nd street. For the 43rd street, i5LED supplied a 6.6mm pixel pitch billboard display with a custom LED border, and a new marquee with real chasing light border.
Moreover, the update included a new operating system that integrated the client’s preferred scheduling software. For the installation, i5LED partnered with American Interstate Sign Company, streamlining the process to meet the project’s sustainability and time constraints.
Result
These updates not only amplify the theatre’s architectural beauty but also captivate Broadway’s discerning audience with the latest in digital display technology.
